PowerUp Challenge: First Query Task

@Crystal Bruce Every morning I approve any recurring gift payment batches in NXT, then need to run a separate query in the system to catch any of those payments that should have a tribute attached to them but don't. I usually run this query in DBV, but with the transition to NXT query decided it was time to figure out my workflow in NXT! Fun Fact – we as an organization mark deceased individuals as inactive. Even More Fun Fact – the tribute field in NXT does not allow you to search for inactive constituents, even if they are marked as “Constituent is an honor/memorial”. This means that not only will this workflow be additional clicks than the DBV workflow, but we as an organization will have to evaluate whether we will have an allowance where a memorial tribute record is reactivated for a few minutes for this workflow specifically each time the recurring gift payment is processed or change how we store deceased constituents in the system entirely and do a mass update to existing records in our system. Most Fun Fact – my boss has off today for her birthday so my gift to her is ignorance on this subject for another few days.

@Crystal Bruce I run a query called Endowment Gifts - Specified Time to make sure all endowment gifts have been wired for investing. I had no problem running this query in NXT. My only suggestion would be to add a “Run Now” button at the bottom since most people are used to that in database view. It is easy to figure out to click Results, but it would probably be helpful to have that option listed as well. The first time I used query in NXT, I was looking for that button before I realized I just needed to click Results instead. More than anything a “Run Now” button would provide a sense of familiarity for those used to database view. Other than that, I was really happy with what I saw. I've already created a new query and it was very easy to understand.

@Crystal Bruce I am often asked for Class Lists or data about members from certain Class Years. It's a simple query (class year = xx or one of xx, xx, xx), but it gives me exactly what's needed for different purposes - depending on the output.

I run a major gift acknowledgement query once a month to send to our gift officers to look over. It runs smoothly and gives me all the information I need.0 -
@Crystal Bruce
Pulled our prospect manager query and it looks great in the web view! One thing I can't do, though, is use “one of” and then paste in up to 500 constituent IDs in the criteria, which we do ALL the time. Will keep using the database view for those queries.0 -
I run a report to show intake collection. It runs smoothly and provides the data i need.

@Crystal Bruce I run a report to see who our biggest donors are each month. Being able to run the Query in webview is great. I love the look and feel of how easy it is.

@Crystal Bruce
I've only had time so far for a few quick tests. I agree with all those who like the “look and feel” and the fact we can paste in so many more “one of's” but functionality still has a long way to go. My most frequent queries are various kinds of audits – mostly constituents and gifts, occasionally events, funds, etc. – in which I need to scroll through the results and click into records to add or edit data, mostly in fields which are not editable in webview. I do this sort of thing at least daily, often multiple times per day. So web-view query is not really useful to me as it stands now.Also, I frequently use queries to run imports or global adds / changes, all of which are only available in db-view, so I have to go into db-view anyway.
Wondering why fiscal year, last FY, etc. is still not available in the date drop down. Seems like an oversight, because quarter IS there. I think I added an idea bank about this maybe 10-15 years ago…

I tested a few of my queries, and on its face it seems to be pretty user friendly. However, I use a lot of queries for functions that are still only in dbv, like global change, so I look forward to more functionality across all sections of RE.0 -
@Crystal Bruce I run a Gift Batch Validation Report Query every day. The canned RE report was much more info than our Finance Office needed or wanted. I really liked that I could export directly to my downloads folder and not have to direct the file to a special location on my drive.

@Crystal Bruce I run a weekly gift report. Since it was already populated with criteria and output, it was super easy and a lot quicker to retrieve the Excel file since I didn't need to go through Web Transfer.
Side note: it would be super helpful to not only be able to search queries by Name, but also Description.

We use queries of money received in the last month and year to date a lot when checking the money on Raisers Edges matches what finance received. I like that I can now click on a record and it takes me straight to it, when in web view I would have to search for it.0 -
@Crystal Bruce Currently my most frequently used query is an Opportunity query as we work through our state's educational improvement tax credit season. Every day there seems to be an updated report that requires a change of opportunity status or even addition/deletion of participants. And having this for Opps is a game-changer!

@Crystal Bruce I like the query editor layout, which makes it easy to select query criteria and view the available Favorite fields in the Output options. The setup of the Options section also simplifies choosing the right option.

@Crystal Bruce A query we run frequently is a “gifts not acknowledged”, which is exactly what it sounds like - gifts that have not yet been acknowledged (for us, that means a thank you/acknowledgement letter has not yet been created/sent to the donor). It works just as great in webview as it does in db view - we can still define the date range, types of gifts to include in the query, etc. Our queries also seem to process results faster in webview than in DB view, which has been nice!

@Crystal Bruce I'm pretty new to all of this but like the query in NXT so far! I have been using it for constituent cleanup (specifically alumni). I inherited a mess and this helps me keep track and easily see who is missing from my graduating classes.

@Crystal Bruce We are still operating primarily with query in database view, but I recently built out our event attendee query in web view. Overall the experience was great! I'm looking forward to using web view more for queries, as web view is my preferred view!

@Crystal Bruce I run batch queries by funds for our gift detail reports that I send to finance.

@Crystal Bruce Seems easier to use. I like that you can drag the fields to change the sort order

@Crystal Bruce I tend to use web view queries for creating email lists to be used in NetCommunity. One other query that works particularly well in web view is our renewal lists so we can begin individual outreach to lapsed Members. Looking forward to figuring out the best ways to use the web view.

@Crystal Bruce:
weekly donors over 1K for specialized stewardshipRun your most commonly used query in web view. What is your go-to query in web view, and how would you describe your overall experience?

@Crystal Bruce
I have an action query I run on a regular basis. I love the new function to copy the link that is new within webview. I am using webview more now that query has been moved over.0 -
@Crystal Bruce
I run a gift report query for our gift officers to see if any online gifts need to be credited to them. We currently use iDonate as our giving platform and for some reason we can't get those gifts to automatically credit to the GO's when the gifts are imported into RE. That is a manual process I have to do every day so I ran that query in web view and it worked great. thanks0 -
@Crystal Bruce Each week I run a quick check on deceased constituents to ensure no one has a current prospect status/classification or assigned Gift Officer. Webview query is super easy for me to run this, click into constituents that may meet the criteria and update their record.

@Crystal Bruce
Our most commonly used query is used to create a list of gifts received within the past week that are $500 and above. We run this weekly and send to the development team to help in our stewardship process. The experience running this in web view has gone pretty smoothly. It was helpful to have our database queries automatically transferred to web view. We ended up making some changes to this weekly query because there is more functionality within web view vs. database that has allowed a more efficient way of sharing with the team via web view instead of exporting to a spreadsheet. I am looking forward to continuing to learn about new features and how to best provide the team with what they need.0 -
@Crystal Bruce
It's hard to choose a single query we run “most often”. I suppose I would choose the “Constituent ID one of…” query that we use for constituent checks, QC, mailing list cross-matching, and portfolio checks. Like many of our queries – such as our event queries and planned giving mailing lists – it requires the Address Processing input/output fields. So right now, I'm still receiving the “This query has been opened in read-only mode because it has features which are not yet supported for editing. Full support for this query will be available in a future release” error message.But, if you were to ask me about our less-used queries or our full-universe mailing lists that don't require Address Processing filters, I would say that I love webview query. I'm happy that they enabled the “Merge Query” function, and the navigation is easy. ?

@Crystal Bruce
One query that my team members can use easily is using ‘one of’ function - copying multiple constituent IDs and added them to the query. When I showed my team how to do it in database view, they were like ‘wow!’ Now, it is way easier to do that in web view because they don't have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the empty table and paste the IDs. My team loves it!0 -
@Crystal Bruce
I run a query called “Online Gift Info” that I use in place of a validation report for the gifts that come in through our online forms. There are custom fields in the validation report that aren't available on a webview batch so this query includes all of them.
Using webview for the query works fine. It's a pretty simple query that I don't need to use the export module for.0 -
@Crystal Bruce I run our “gifts to be acknowledged” query daily. Overall the webview version seems to work just as well as the database view and eliminates the step of using the export functionality for when I am ready to export lists.

@Crystal Bruce I run our “Daily Gifts for Advancement Team” almost daily. Overall, it was easy to edit. I don't think it will be too hard adjusting to webview vs. database.
