Website Best Practices

Options

Following up on a question from last week's call, here is information on best practices for a visitor friendly and donor focused website. Please post questions and comments to this thread. And don't forget the website analysis BGCA did for each pilot club a few months ago. Each of you received their feedback via email with observations and recommendations.

What is Donor Centered? Attached is Penelope Burke's research on what donors want and this will help give you an idea of what to keep in mind not only for your website and what content to include, but recognition, stewardship and more.

Also attached is a presentation from a Convio conference about homepage designs, most of the information is applicaable to your entire site.

  • Thanks Danielle!

Remember that each Club has personalized web audits, which were sent to you back in January. The recommendations made by our web master, Lori McLemore, are all low cost, high impact changes you can make to improve your Club's site.

If you don't have the time, resources or desire to put into your website - bgc web templates are an awesome alternative. Check them out at www.bgcweb.org.

I also wanted to share some great Club sites - a few from our very own pilot!

Let me know if any of you need information about our bgcweb template program. It is a cost effective way to create an easy to maintain professional website --  the first step to your online fundraising and awareness campaigns.  The cost is $197 to purchase and $50/month to host. You can incorporate the Convio Go program into the bgcweb program if you opt to continue with our Convio program. For details, visit www.bgcweb.org. Or e-mail me at lmclemore@bgca.org should you need additional information.

Baton Rouge uses the BGC web templates and then works to creatively use images to give us the more customized look.  The templates are user friendly and are a good value.  We are pleased with the product.  It does have some limitations but nothing that has kept us from being happy with the site.  If anyone wants to see how we have used one of the templates check out www.BeGreatBatonRouge.org

Wow! You have done a great job making this look like a custom site - I did not even realize it was a bgc web template!
