Unsubscribe Link Broken?

Options

I received this message when our  first HFB campaign message was sent this a.m.:

A constituent attempted to cancel their email subscription by selecting the unsubscribe link, but that link was corrupted for some reason. As a result, the Profile of this constitutent has not been updated to reflect the unsubscribe request.

The constituent provided the following information to the fallback unsubscribe request form:

First Name:CarolLast Name:AquinoEmail:###@###.org

*I deleted the email.

How do I fix the link and make sure we honor her request to be removed from further HFB messages?

  • You did the right thing by using your admin powers to unsubscribe the contact.

Good news here is that you don't need to take any action to change the unsubscribe link.  For most users it should continue to work just fine.  From time to time, there are certain email or browser settings on the end user's system that will break or "corrupt" an unsubscribe link and so the system isn't able to perform the unsubscribe on its own.  Jeana Hollingsworth posted this thread with some explanation:  http://community.convio.com/t5/Luminate-Online/Why-am-I-getting-emails-about-a-fallback-unsubscribe-request/m-p/19115/highlight/true#M8845

The bad news here is that there is not a way for us to change that behavior for users that have these kind of browser settings enabled -- the good news though is that because of the unique identifiers used in all email links, the system is always able to determine which constituent clicked the link, and that's how it knows to notify the admin.  It's basically saying:

"Hey there admin -- I have enough info to know that THIS particular person clicked the unsub link; however, their browser broke the link when they tried to unsubscribe themselves and so the process did not get finished -- you need to use your admin powers to finish the unsubscribe process for them"

    Hope this helps explain,

    Adam
