We've been making use of custom codes for campaigns and fundraising pages for a number of years now - since before JustGiving integration with RE existed. It enables us to pre-fill the report with the soft credit and package information to make data entry very straightforward (if only we could do the same for Giving Checkout regular donors!).

We use Insights and Dashboards almost exclusively for our reporting now. I hear so many people say that they don't work and that they don't match database view. This isn't true. My tip is to start small - maybe report on a fund that only receives a few gifts. If your insight doesn't match your report from the database view figure out why. Also, sometimes we need to re-think the way we enter data. For instance, when I came to my current organization they were using a lot of attributes that couldn't be reported on. That needed to be changed before I could use Insights in any significant way. I did make a lot of changes and now I have really nice Dashboards where people can view current data that is accurate and actionable. So start small with Insights and learn how they work.
