BBIS Skype Chat: Events - May 21st

Thank you to everyone who attended our BBIS Skype Chat yesterday!  We had a great discussion about Events management.

Attached are the transcript and summary of the session.

  • Thank you to everyone who attended our chat today about the Directory in BBIS.

Attached are the summary and transcript of the session.

One of the questions asked today was whether there is going to be a "Back to search results" button available in the directory.  After a bit of research, I found that this is planned to come out with version 4.0.  You can read about it here - just scroll to the third post on the topic.

For those that were curious about Derek's question during the chat (about whether switching to academic catalog was recommended):

We've added employment and academic catalog fields starting in 3.0 Service Pack 7 (which is now available).  It's certainly not required to start using the Academic Catalog, and is likely not applicable to some organizations, but switching will enable you to take advantage of the new functionality.

Below is the information that was shared at the Customer Summit a few weeks ago:

Thank you to everyone who attended our BBIS “Skype” chat today – and HUGE round of applause to Greg Harmelink from UGA, who generously shared their event configuration with us on our call.  We all saw some great ideas and learned a lot!

The session summary is attached, and here is the recording of the demonstration, for those who may have missed it.

    Action item update:

Greg mentioned that it seemed that some attribute data types were not available to use in BBIS.  I've done some research on this and found the documentation that confirms this in our help files:

Note: You can use one-per-record attributes with types of Date, Text, Number, Currency, and Yes/No in the program. Table type attributes are available without being marked as one per record. Fuzzy Date, Constituent Name, Memo, and Time type attributes are not available.

Thank you to everyone who attended our BBIS Chat today.  Since it was a small group we ended up talking about what our participants are working on right now - a little bit about credit card blacklisting, and a bit about event payment possibilities.  Check out the transcript and summary (attached) for more detail.

Thank you to everyone who attended our BBIS Skype Chat last Wednesday.  We discussed payment and pledge forms in BBIS, but also talked a lot about managing event registrations.  See the attached transcript and summary for details.

Thank you to everyone who attended last week's BBIS Chat about Communication Preferences.  Our chat centered around the opt-in and opt-out options for users - check out the attached transcript and summary to learn more!

After talking to Issac Story, our BBIS product lead, and Justin Morrow, our BBIS Product Manager, we are thinking that the opt-in/opt-out isn't a bug specifically, but could certainly be reviewed to be made more clear for users who update their communication preferences.

In the current design, users must check a box for each item they'd like to opt in to.  Any boxes that they do not check are explicitly marked as things that they've opted out of, even though the didn't specifically make any selection to opt-out.

In light of recent trends towards protecting users from receiving unsolicited mailings (check out this post on Canada's new anti-spam laws), it seems like a safe bet to only include people in a mailing if they've specifically chosen to receive it.

However, the major concern is the lack of clarity on the current page - users may not fully understand that by not opting in, they are opting out.  While not "broken" per se, this functionality could potentially be re-designed for more clarity.  Justin has commented on the current suggestion that the products team is open to considering this.

Please consider voting for, and adding your comments to, the existing suggestion.  The more votes we get ad the more thorough our understanding of the problem and impact from your perspectives, the more likely that we can make a change!

Thank you to everyone who joined our chat yesterday about email services in BBIS.  We had a number of ideas come up.

Greg Harmelink at UGA shared a suggestion that he’s created, which is to have the ability to cancel a scheduled email.  You can check it out and vote for it here.

There were several ideas that don’t exist yet in the IdeaBank, that people planned to add following our discussion.  You can see the details in our attached chat summary and transcript.  The community is a great way to collaborate with your peers and discuss possible ideas for BBIS.  As such, if you have a suggestion in the IdeaBank that you’d like to share and invite others to vote for, you can post in our group at any time – the group is open all the time, not just during our 2-3pm time slot on Wednesdays – so feel free to share!

  • Caroline Barnes:

Yesterday was our final scheduled BBIS chat - the summary and transscript are attached.  Next Wednesday, July 30th, we'll have an open session for feedback and planning new topics!

This BBIS Chat was unique in format - the community group all joined a screensharing session and phone call, and took turns giving informal tours of our sites built with BBIS.  Attached is the summary, which includes screenshots of each organization's site.  Thank you so much to everyone who shared!
