Online Express emails going to spam and/or promotions

Options
Is there a way to keep online express emails from having the word "bulk" in the subject? This seems to flag the email for spam or "promotions" in gmail and other email providers. Thanks!

Hey Peter. The (bulk) tag that gets added to subject lines is typically a function of an external spam filter. Possibly something installed on your internal network or machine. There's lots of reading out there on how to make content to avoid spam filters. Things like avoiding lots of exclamation marks, words like "Free" or "Click here", avoid all caps, etc.

As for how gmail sorts mail in the promotions tab, there isn't much you can do about it. As much as nonprofits would like their mass marketing emails to end up in the personal folders of gmail users, the "promotions" tab in gmail was designed to include exactly this type of content. There's lots of discussion around the web about how this impacts email marketing, it's worth a look if you are curious!
  • Matt, we're having the same issue even though we are avoiding all the "promo language" and exclamation marks.

You referred to "The (bulk) tag that gets added to subject lines is typically a function of an external spam filter. Possibly something installed on your internal network or machine." Is this something that our network administrator might be able to address?

    Many thanks
  • Also, I found this online -

Gmail checks whether emails are correctly authenticated. If your messages are sent by a bulk mailing vendor or by third-party affiliates, please publish an SPF record that includes the IPs of the vendor or affiliates which send your messages and sign your messages with a DKIM signature that is associated with your domain.

Would this be helpful to our situation? If so, what are the steps involved?
