Hello,



Our organization is currently undertaking a 1:2 matching challenge appeal. In reporting, my supervisor would like to see the amounts of gifts given, which is easy enough to report on, but she would also like to see the total value of the gift (original gift amount plus the matching amount, so a $5,000 gift would be a $7,500 gift with the match). What is the best way to track/report on the total value of the gift (original gift amount plus matching amount)? Gift attributes? Crystal reports?

    Gift attributes is an option for manual entry. Pulling list of gifts in to Excel and having function to multiply would also give you a list.  Depends on if you want amount recorded in RE.



    Guess other options depend on how you're entering data.  On donor record, I'm assuming your'e just entering the $5000.  Is the total MG amount entered somewhere?  Are you entering a MG on each donor's record?

    Thank you JoAnn for your reply. Yes, I will be entering the $5,000 gift amount on the donor's gift record. As for the matching gift amount ($7,500), that's what I'm unsure about. I wasn't sure if it made more sense to put the full matching gift amount on the gift record (i.e. in attributes, reference, etc.) and just export the pertinent information into Excel or if I should just set up a report that will figure what the match amount would be for each gift. Thanks again!

    Is the matching gift money coming from an outside donor?  If so, I think I would set it up as a matching gift on each person's record, so if they gave $5000, they get credit (soft credit?) for the $2500 match.  If the money is already a part of your organization, I think exporting to excel and letting it figure it out would be the best way.  There wouldn't be a way to give soft credit to the donor for the match portion I don't think?

    For each gift you get use the "Matching Gifts" tab to enter the information about the matched amount.  When you want to report on the amount raised almost all reports in RE will let you choose whether to report the matching amount as credited to the Donor, MG Company, or Both.  Use the power of RE.  This is an are it handles really well.  No attributes or spreadsheets required.

    Thank you. I guess I should amend my previous post to say the matching gift money is coming from TWO different outside donors. Will I still be able to use the matching gift tab to track the matched gift amount because of this fact?

    Yes, you can add two (or more) matching gift pledges to a single gift.

    If entered as MG, when you receive the matching money you will need apply it to all the MGs.  If you don't apply it, they will all show balances.  Not real hard though if you enter match donor's name and choose to apply.  All the MG pledges should list and you'd just need to check them all.



    Your post about 2 match donors just came through.  That gets a little more tricky.  As when you enter the MG you need to link to the record of donor who is matching it.  You may have to split who is matching.  Are they each doing set amounts or half each?  Trying to think if all the MG were on one record if you could still apply second match donor's payment to MG on match donor #1's MG.  Think you should but would check before saying for sure.
