Query for Constituent IDs for Org Contacts who are constituents

Options
When querying for Org contacts, we pull the field This Individual is a Constituent, but is there a way to actually pull the ID for that org contact?  I did it once sometime ago, and cannot recall what I did.  I know it was a convoluted process.

And general gripe, why oh why can't we have ID's appear on Financial Gift Detail and Summary reports?????  Or most any reports, for that matter!

  • Hmmm.  I've tried replying 3 times now and it isn't working.  May have to split the reply up into multiple messages.
  • Are you using a Constit query, Org query, or Relationship query??
  • To get ID's to print in reports I have a special Add/Sal for just that purpose:

(can't get screenshot to work in this reply)

    [Last Name]

    [First Name] (Comma checked)

    [Middle Name]

    [Suffix 1]

    [Constituent ID]

Previews as "Smith, William Henry, Jr. 999999"

And I select that Add/Sal on the report config: Format > Name Formats > Individual >  Addressee Salutation to Use > From configuration:

  • I've seen that suggestion before (about adding to the addressee/salutation field), I may think about that.

I'm using a constituent query, with a criteria of constituent codes for our corp/and corp foundation org donors.  We're pulling org lists for a mailings (solicitation and non-solicitation), but the problem is some org contacts also have individual records, so they may show up on more than one list (it's a mess).  Trying to determine the best way to eliminate that duplication.  At least if I have the constituent IDs for those org contacts, I can run the IDs in Excel to check again my other list segments.  But without the IDs it's cumbersome, to say the least.
  • Madeleine - I always use export to create my mailing lists - and include the Constituent ID for Contacts in my output for exactly the reason you are describing.
  • Yes, that is it!  Thanks for reminding me.
  • On most of the Mail functions, on the Organization tab, when you click the "Contact Information" button, you have the option "If a contact also receives the mailing as a individual:"
    • Mail to both addresses separately
    • Mail to individual address only
    • Mail to contact address only
I think that will get you what you're looking for without having to to any proofing of the list by Constituent ID.
  • I was having the same issue with organization contacts who are also constituents appearing on multiple lists, and found this same solution in another thread. You can also create a query from the output in Mail, and use that in your Export if you aren't going to process everything through Mail. The query should eliminate the duplicates based on what you select, as described below.
