Addressee/Salutation for The Honorable

Options
I was wondering what ways other RE users have the addressee/salutation for The Honorable situations.  We currently have all elected officals, judges, etc. as Title1 The Honorable.  The Salutation then comes out The Honorable lastname; however, the President wants to follow the format of The Honorable Bob Jones, Chairman and then Chairman Jones.  How do you do this in your system?  We thought about using Title2 and putting Chairman and then the primary address and primary salutation can be as above.  We also thought about using Title1 as the Chairman and building a "generic" The Honorable lastname in the addressee/salutation table.

Just wondered what everyone else does and what you find easier for queries, etc.

Thank you,

Jenny

Correct: The Honorable Ahmed Henderson, Mayor of Springfield

Correct in conversation or in a salutation: Mayor Henderson

We have The Honorable as a title.  guess you and your president will have to fight it out. wink.  I would think twice pulling a second title in the desired addressee.  Reason being, if that's how you format your merge doc, it's going to do it for all the merges.  If you have a second title on other records you could end up with some interesting addressees.

I think you would be better creating an addressee/salutation  format that pulls what you need and using that for those specific records.

    My two cents....

So far, we have built an addressee/salutation under Config that is Title1 Firstname Middlename Lastname Suffix1, Title2 and then Title2 Lastname for the Sal.  Think it will work.  :)
  • We use The Honorable in the 1st
title and whatever is appropriate in the 2nd (e.g.
Mayor, Judge)  We then created default addressee/salutation
loads and pull the 1st title in the primary addressee
field and the 2nd title in the salutation addressee for
those individuals who have the honorable.  For all others
default load’s are used that pull the 1st title for both
    primary and salutation addressees.

  • We do pretty much the same as Anne.  The Honorable in Title 1 and Judge in Title 2.  As far as having Title 1 and Title 2 in same addressee -- sometimes it's  appropiate.  We have someone who is both a Baroness and a Doctor.  Or, for instance, Reverend Dr. MLK.  JoAnn is right, best used in an addressee formula for those specific records.

(I also sometimes use Title2 for adding Ms. for married women.  When I address them individually, I am finding that some prefer Ms. to Mrs. with not used in connection to the husband.  Together it's Mr. & Mrs. John Smith or Mary and John Smith.  But if it's just to Mary, she prefers Ms. Mary Smith.)
