Large Imports but excluding people that already have records

My new organization does mass imports 5,000+. My predecsor has already left and didn't teach anyone how to import these files but exclude people who already have records in RE. So my question is - how do you find out who already has records in RE in the excel document? Is there a program you use or a kinda of feature in RE that will locate everyone with an RE record already so then I can exclude them in the import?



My apologies if I am not explaining this well.

    ...we use import-o-matic. http://www.omaticsoftware.com/ works seamlessly (almost) w/ raiser's edge. depending on settings, will identify possible matches already in RE and ask you for match.

    Yes, but import-o-matic is very often too expensive for small charities...

    The is an option to use Import tool and select "Dont import suspected dulicates" option in step one and then select to save exceptions in the separate file in step four of import and deal with them separately in excel maybe using vlookups; the least favourite way would be to import them all regardless of duplicate check and dela with them using broken Duplicate Management Tool in RE.

    RE really lacks in this regard hence tool like import-o-matic is so vital, popular and expensive.

    So agree, would love to have import-o-matic abilities but financially it's not really an option for the limited use.  The cost would pay for hundreds of manually adding records/filtering dups etc.   Our use of it would essentially be to import new/updates/changes of Y membership list a couple of times a year.  Definitely not worth cost for that.
