Gift paid by different constituent

Options
Hi there, We have a donor who paid for membership [donation] for other 2 people. How do I record this in Raiser's Edge? I'm new to RE and not sure what the best way is. Our old database allowed us to enter a gift and then it had a "Paid By" option to select constituent ID for other donor who paid for that gift if it wasn't same person who paid for it. I hope I explained it clearly here. Thanks, Brinda

We always record the gift as being given by the donor (whoever wrote the check), since the donor is the one who gets tax credit.

A couple other questions: Is this gift paying for a recorded pledge on the other constituents' records? Or is it simply a gift membership? Also, do you have the membership module? Those factors would affect how I link the gift to the constituents whose membership was paid for.

Thanks Helen. This is actually a gift membership. We do have membership module but we do not use it for this type of memberships as they are essentially donations. Thanks, Brinda

In that case, you could soft credit the gift to the constituents who were recipients of the gift membership (check your soft credit policy). Or you could add an attribute to the gift. Or you could add an attribute or note to the constituents who were the recipients of the gift membership. Or any combination thereof.
