query: total gift amount of $5k or more...

I need a list of donors that gave $5k or more in a given year. I have been struggling with this for a few weeks to no avail. The total gift amount needs to add up to $5k or more and doesn't necessarily need to be a lump sum gift of $5k+. The frustration comes from the fact that one specific donor who has given over $5k is not showing up. Please advise. Thank you!

What type of query are you using and what type of criteria?  To pull that info I would use a constituent query with criteria of Summary Info (near bottom of criteria list) > Summary for Gift > Total Amount of Gifts > greater than or equal to $5000. On filter tab select your year (not clear if your looking for one year or bunch of years from your post).  Also here select gift types (cash, stock, pledge or pay-cash etc.) and any needed funds etc. 

If you need it for multiple years then do these steps for each year you need with OR between criteria to pick up donors from each year.  This should work.  Post more details and also double check the specific donor to see that they truly meet your criteria - perhaps part of gift was in previous year - I've had that happen when I expected a name - found that there was a reason they didn't meet my critieria.

Thanks so much, JoAnn. I am trying to create a constituent query and the problem that I am currently encountering is that after entering all of the filters, I am getting gifts from multiple years. I am selecting Gift Date-->between-->07/1/2013 AND 06/30/2014. However, the query is pulling results from 2008.

 Do you have other criteria?  Maybe try putting a gift date criteria that is not part of the summary info filters.  Maybe that will catch it.  Sometimes it seems like RE just has a mind of its own.

 as this is a constituent query, the output will show all gifts in history for the constituents selected by your criteria. So in other words, the people included have given

If you have gift information of any kind in criteria, output, or sort, you will get all gifts on the record as Simon explained.  You will need to remove any gift specific fields in any of those tabs and just use the criteria JoAnn mentioned.  And add the gift date only in the filters of your summary field. 

If you do want gift specific information, you will need to run it through an export.
