Associating individual gifts to a group room naming

Options

We're doing a capital campaign where there are room naming opportunities.  I'm wondering what the best way is to associate a bunch of individual gifts to a single room naming?

A few examples - a group of employees are donating funds for a room in memory of a coworker who passed away several years ago.  Another group of employees may be donating funds for a room generally named from the employees of the Hospital.  Three local business owners are donating (as individuals) to name a room after the business that they each run a branch of...

How do I enter that info so that I can pull a query to find out who gave for the room "from hospital staff" or the room named for "Business A," etc...?

How are you entering you general donor recognition?  In attributes or addressee/alias or somewhere else.  Just asking because if possible I would try to keep the naming opps in the same fields.

You could use a gift attribute - nice because you can name the attribute and then use a table of the room naming opps for consistent entry, have date and comment fields for more info.  Like you could put how they preferred their name to be listed in comments if you need special format for names.  Can be queried/exported.

We use an addressee type of 'recognition - ABC Fund' for our different campaigns.  You can add addressee type of "room name - " and then enter name of the room by checking editable for each constituent donating for that room.  Or you could actually add "Room - 'BusinessA'" and each of the other rooms - if it's a lot it could clutter up your addressee list but it's doable.  Can be queried/exported.

Am sure there are a few other options too. Gift Code or Gift subtype if those fields are not being used for anything else, they work too.

We have constituency codes for our donor societies, but I think attributes might be the way to go for this.  Thanks for the info!

Looking at Attributes, it seems this isn't much different than using Notes, is it?  Are we able to Query by all fields in attributes or just 'category'?

If you look at query > Gift information > attributes you'll see all the fields - you can pick all or a specific attribute and query on: Category, comments, date.  Using a table for the description makes for easy consistent/limite entry for that attribute.
