Recording Donor Levels

Options

Wondered if I could pick your brains on the best practices in recording donor levels in Raiser's Edge.  We have an annual donor reception in which to honor our donors that have acheived placement on the donor wall.  We currently have one constituent code to record that they are on the donor wall but we do have several levels on the wall and would like to record when they move from one level to another.  Any thoughts or suggestions on the best way to handle this would be greatly appreciated.  THANKS!!!

I do not recommend constituent code for this at all.

I might recommend using separate addressee/salutations for each level and use the add/sal to document how their name is/should be written. This way, quite easily you can run a list on paper of everyone by level with the exact listing as is on the wall.

We use a specific Sal/Addressee type for recording donor recognition on donor walls.  Along with a specific attribute, then I can pull from both.  This doesn't require a lot of data manipulation.  It's pretty straight forward.  I hope this helps!

    Dodie,

Is your primary question how to track when someone moves from one level to another?  If it is, have you looked at the donor category reports? It wouldn't have date that they moved but could show your 'levels'.

This isn't something we would use constituent code for, just as the other have posted.  If you've determined that it's what works best for you, I think you'd need to create more than one constit code and have the level be part of the code and then you could use date fields.  Caution: I think it could get pretty messy and there's a good chance for error, records not getting updated..

We do something kind of unique at our organazation. The current category we store as an attribute, but we show the history of giving through the membership module. Each year we process and upgrade, downgrade, drop, join, rejoin etc. to see a donor's giving tendencies. With an easy membership report, we are able to see what levels have had an increase/decrease in donors. This I believe is an easy way of tracking without clogging up the attribute tab with each year's level.

That is an interesting way of using the Membership module.

do you move the old attribute to the membership module manually or by global change? I agree its a good way to not clog up the attribute tab. We're looking for a way to track this but it would be for thousands of constituents and any manual entry would be too much.
