Depending on how you track that the donor made an online gift, you may just need to query and export the data. 

Reports > Analytical Reports > Comparative Report would be a great report but don't know how you could separate out the online gifts as they are not recorded with a specific gift type.  It could work if you've tracked the online payments with an attribute.

Doesn't look like you can apply different gift criteria for each time period in a Comparative Report, which is really what you would need to do.

 Are you looking to compare individual donors (if I gave last year with a check, and this year online)?  You could use Export, apply date (last year, this year) and gift criteria (pay method, online gift wherever you enter that info) to each column/field and then compare the results in Excel.

How would you report on donors that give multiple ways within the same year?

If you are looking for summary information (based on pay method, check/cc vs. online) you could pull giving reports to get total giving, average gift, etc.
