  • This configuration guide is a companion to Open Authentication (http://community.customer.convio.com/docs/DOC-2841) and Social Sharing (http://community.customer.convio.com/docs/DOC-2844)

  • All,

Recently FB posted that everyone needs to migrate to their new data model. Because of this change, our partners at Gigya require that the "Migrate to FB Graph API" option be selected. This updated doc covers how to make those changes.

One key item to note here is that the Graph API has been changed to NOT deliver City, Country, and Zip. This is likley in reaction to privacy concerns. The impact is that because these fields are no longer presented by FB, they will not be autopopulated into Convio forms where the user is loging in via Open Authentication.

  • If you have Facebook Connect on in Convio, do you have to remove it proactively or will it disappear with this new release?

  • Kristen,

If you have FB connect prior to the summer release...once your site is updated, FB conenct will disappear. HOWEVER, once you have your social sharing component configured, it will automatically appear in the right hand nav pane of Participant Center 2.

  • Casey,

We have a client who has a house social network that people can access via SSO.  If we provide the option to login via FB, will it conflict with that process?  In addition, Convio typically requires a username, which is different than a screen name or a email address.  How does that work in scenarios like this?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Joel

  • Joel,

OA only works on convio hosted pages - so while im not sure of the use case regarding your celients "house social network" - this feature only works on Convio hosted pages. However, if a user uses OA to login to a convio-hosted page, the convio SSO API will still work because it will recognize that session as the user being logged in. When a user uses OA to login all they are doing is making a handshake with the Convio security engine saying that the credentials provided by Gigya have 1) been authenticated on the social site of choice and 2) this social site account is properly linked to the constituent account in the Convio database.

  • Hi Casey,

Regarding the requirements for domains, we would mostly be using sharing on secure pages (donations via API and advocacy) that use secure3.convio.net.  How does that affect this setup?  Also, our top-level domain, greenpeace.org, is not hosted by Convio, but "us.greenpeace.org" is hosted on Convio.  It's not entirely clear from the instructions which domain we should use.

And regarding the CNAME requirement of socialize.yourdomain.com: how should this be chosen considering our domain structure?

Or do we need to rethink our domain setup on Convio completely in order to use Gigya?

We also plan to try to utilize the open authentication for single-sign-on, maybe even for two or more other systems/CMS's that we use.  Consider that in your answer too

    Thanks.

    Tom

  • Tom,

    1) Social sharing can be used on secure pages so no problems there - and it doenst affect setup. Part of the automation that ocurrs when you use the special registraiton link with Gigya is to have additional domains configured for your account that make the integration possible.

    2) take a look at this doc again. I just posted a new version 5 min ago. On page 4 I address this whole top-level domain question with some examples. So if you have nothing below us.greenpeace.org (e.g., abc.us.greenpeace.org, xyz.us.greenpeace.org. etc.) then you would use us.greenpeace.org.

    3) it the above statement is correct, you should choose socialize.us.greenpeace.org

    4) based on what i see here i dont see a need to rethink your domain setup

    5) yes! remember OA is only doing a handshake with your convio site saying that the TomFacebook credential can enter as the TomConvio credential. if you have SSO setup after the fact that looks for the active login session for TomConvio credential, you are all good.

When you look at this new document can you provide some feedback as to whether or not this makes things more / less clear

    Thanks,

    Casey

  • Hi Casey,

Yes, this is mostly clear now.  I'll tackle this setup in the coming days and let you know how it goes.

    Thanks.

    Tom

  • Casey,

Can you use Gigya on an Advocacy alert message as well as on the Advocacy center pages? Can you use it on TeamRaiser participant pages?

    Thanks,

    Heather

  • heather,

by gigya do you mean social sharing? if so:

    - you cant use social sharing in an email

    - you can use social sharing anywhere on convio hosted pages. concerning advocacy i have seen this used on the thank you page of the action

  • Casey,

How do i request Social Medai Applications from Gigya, becasue I don't see the "Request Applications" button on the Gigya webpage? I went ahead and created a Facebook and Twitter app myself (and they are working fine),  should I be doing the same for the other Social Media providers?

  • Keith,

Thats odd - I've reached out to Gigya to see whats going on.

However, if you have already created your own apps you can just enter their keys on that site settings page and you should be good to go.

Justbe sure to follow their tutorials on how to set up the sites - these tutorials are also linked on the site settings page.

    Thanks.

    Casey

  • is there a more updated version of this? I just logged into gigya and my settings on the left are different. Thank you!

I have the same question as Maria.

The Gigya settings interface within the .pdf document linked in the first post of this thread no longer matches the live Gigya settings interface.

Does anybody have a more updated version of this document?  Are there any plans to update this document?
