Medical Form - "Remove medication" issue

Options

Hi all,

For those that use Medical Forms for Allergies, Conditions and their related medications, I wanted to give you a heads up - when a parent is completing a medical form where a child has a medication(s) associated with an allergy or condition on their record, the Medical Form presents the parents with a ‘Remove Medication’ button as part of the form. At this time, if the parent clicks the ‘Remove Medication’ button, the child's medication information in the Nurse's Office is NOT updated. In other words, the medication's ‘Until' date is not updated as you would expect and the Audit Trail tile does not reflect any change; therefore, it still looks like a valid, active medication for that child.

I have a case open with Support who acknowledge this is not working correctly. They provided a possible workaround, but unfortunately, it is not a realistic option for us as we don't allow parents to directly update medical information for their child(ren). The risk for us is that a nurse could technically administer a medication that is no longer valid/appropriate.

  • @Mary Stanton I've been wrestling with this dilemma since 2019-2020 when we began using the Nurse's office. I'm curious to learn what workaround they suggested.

  • @Lauren Marcus Eisenberg Can you please clarify if have you had issues specifically with medications from the Medical form not updating the Nurse's office data or are you referring to issues in general with the Medical form not reflecting accurately in the Nurse's office? This is the first year we were going to try to use the Medical forms, so am even more wary if there are other issues that I haven't found yet. Are you using Medical forms now? Are you aware of any other existing issues?

As for the workaround they said "When the parent is prompted if the allergy needs a medication, if the answer is set as "No" it will "expire" the medication and set the "Until Date" as of the date the form is submitted. A Nurse or Parent user can also delete Medications off the student's medical record through the Nurse's Office as a Nurse, or the Medical tab as a Parent."

My issue with this is a parent still will see the ‘remove medication’ option on the form and even if we give directions to not use the ‘remove med’ button you know someone will still use it and we won't be aware. We know a Nurse can ‘manually’ update the record but it defeats the purpose of the form if we have to tell parents, don't use the ‘remove’ button and contact the nurse??
