Activity Pane: New toggle button?

I just noticed that when on a student's record (in Billing Management), the activity pane has a new toggle button that states, “Preview activity and print statements using the new balance calculations”. Does anyone know what this is for? I'm not sure what they mean by “the new balance calculations”. I've toggled the button on and off but I don't see any difference in the information.

Just curious to know its purpose.

    @Shirley Wagar I just emailed you – we added you to our Customer Tech Preview (CTP) so you can see some upcoming changes to our balance calculation to better handle split families based on an example that came across my inbox.
