Adding constituent fields to Gift Query

Options

Hi all!

My org exports a daily giving report for our Advancement team and we would like to be able to add historical giving information about the constituent responsible for that gift. For example, we would like to pull in the First Gift or Years Given into the (Gift Type) report without having to export a gift query and a constituent query and combine them outside RE. Any suggestions?

@Clarissa Rice Hampton I would create a Constituent query and select Gift Date = Yesterday. Then go to the export module and create a Constituent export and you'll add your gift fields and select “yesterday” for the date to use.

You can then also add fields for First Gift, Summary Giving for their lifetime giving, and anything else you need! I'd set the number of Gifts to export at 2 or 3 in case one constituent made multiple gifts on the same day.

Unfortunately, the # of Years Given is not an exportable field. But you could export Total # of Gifts to get an idea of how many gift they have given since their first gift.

Happy to give you more tips on setting up your export if you like!

  • @Clarissa Rice Hampton You could try to experiment with “Merge Queries".

I would agree with Carlene to use a constituent query, but rather than using that constituent query in constituent export, I would just directly use the constituent query to export.

    The differences:
Using Export, assuming you export 3 gifts you will get

Constituent IDNameFirst Gift - Gift DateFirst Gift - Gift AmountYesterday Gift Date 1Yesterday Gift Amount 1Yesterday Gift Date 2Yesterday Gift Amount 2Yesterday Gift Date 3Yesterday Gift Amount 3

if same constituent has 4 or more gifts from yesterday, they will not get outputted.

Using Query to export, you will get:

Constituent IDNameFirst Gift - Gift DateFirst Gift - Gift AmountYesterday Gift DateYesterday Gift Amount

if more than 1 gifts, you will get a 2nd row, 3rd row with same Constituent ID, Name, First Gift - Gift Date, First Gift - Gift Amount, and individual row for each of Yesterday Git Date and Yesterday Gift Amount. If there are 4 or 5 gift from same constituent yesterday, you will get 4 or 5 rows, never missing anything.
