@Anna Benedict Not sure what online platform your gifts are coming through. This happens for us when donor puts in a specific acknowledgee or comment.

You will need to go to the record for each of the donors and edit their gift to select one memorial that you select. If you can't tell them apart, put something in the description field of the one you want to use.

@Anna Benedict I haven't looked to see how/if it can be done in web view but I know you change in db view. Yes, open the gift and go to Tribute, open the tribute record and in the drop down you should be able to pick the tribute you want.

@Anna Benedict this is definitely something you have to manage in DB view. I am not sure you can do it any way other than opening the original gift and then selecting the tribute record you want (this is how I've corrected things in the past). Since they all look the same you may want to specify the one you want to use by putting in a description. Then you can open each gift and switch the tribute to the correct one. Once they're all moved you can delete the duplicates (after verifying no gifts are tied to them).

I am perplexed why they're creating multiple ones under the same constituent since they're all memorials. I could understand if one was an honor and another was a memorial. The only thing I can think of is if someone had merged two constituent records together, thereby bringing in other tribute records, too.

@Miki Martin ours come in thru NetC but the duplicates happen when someone puts an acknowledge name/address or a comment about the person. :)

Yes…just don't delete the gift and you're fine. Delete the tribute and then add the new tribute record *use the same one for all six gifts…then you can go back and click on the duplicate tributes, right click and delete them when they have 0 gifts.

thank you so much for your help. i dont know why this happened but it made a new record for the deceased, although i had set her chart up correctly. i had to merge with her main chart so it added the memorial gift as a new one. i had to do that about 4 times. Some i have no problem with at all. very strange and irritating lol

@Anna Benedict the duplicate checks are so much better than they were just a couple of years ago but duplicates definitely still get created at times. It is definitely irritating but usually fairly manageable. My old org saw a ton of duplicate deceased records created because RE could not understand when donors would include maiden and married last names even though we tracked both (in the appropriate fields, of course). I was always having to merge records, or going into the gift record and selecting the correct tribute on the correct constituent record and then deleting the incorrect record. As long as you are aware of the possibilities, check frequently for duplicates and ensure others on your team are aware of the process you should be good. Good luck!
