What email marketing tools do you use?

Hi Folk:

Not sure if I add the question to the right community. I want to know what email marketing tools you are using. Any info is helpful. Thanks, Catherine

Luminate Online - powerful but not the easiest tool to use

    @Catherine Han - You have 3 options:

    • NXT Email Marketing - User friendly drag-drop interface, easy to use but doesn't send to relationship records.
    • OLX Email Marketing - User interact can be clunky at times, but it can send to relationship records.
    • External 3rd-Party Platform (e.g., MailChimp, ConstantContact) - Typically has more features available that the two above.
  • @Alex Wong Correct, Luminate Online needs people to have more skills

  • @Austen Brown Thank you. Is there any a bit cheaper one. Mailchimp and Constant Contact are popular. Mailchimp is quite expensive if you have more contacts. I don't know constant contant. Just heard about it.

  • @Catherine Han
    We use Mailchimp

  • @Rachel Cavalier are you remove clean list /unsubscribe from mailchimp? Because Mailchimp charges by audiences and emails. thx.

  • @Catherine Han
I don't know too many of the details of mailchimp, but we maintain all the of consent, unsubscribes etc within Raiser's Edge and then I believe our marketing team imports the mailing list for that specific mailing - sends it and then some time later are supposed to remove that list. Any unsubscribes are passed to us to make sure it's reflected accurately in RE.

They also use it for other parts of the organisation too though - so our Volunteers dept, updates for community centre users etc.

  • @Rachel Cavalier great, thank you.

@Catherine Han I've used iContact and MailChimp most of the time. We have Omatic Cloud and use the ImportOmatic connector to manage unsubscribes and maintenance. In addition, our marketing department manages MailChimp similarly as @Rachel Cavalier. I would look into what tools your marketing department needs and if a cheaper tool can meet your requirements if MailChimp or Constant Contact are out of your budget. For us, the built in tools for email were not good enough for the branding needs for our organization. As such, we were able to get access to a much more feature rich tool that we would have been able to afford with just our budget.

  • @Dariel Dixon thank you for your quick reponse. Are your marketing department remove cleaned list and unsubscribed after you update in Raiser's Edge.

@Catherine Han: Actually it's the opposite. We use MailChimp to manage unsubscribes and move into RE. We are managing our own audience in MailChimp, and archive any unsubscribes or deceased individuals. The third party tools have better management tools for email, and we rely on those as opposed to trying to manage it all in RE.

  • @Dariel Dixon
What do you mean the 3rd party tools? Do you mean Mailchimp?

@Catherine Han Yes. Anything that's not native to Blackbaud.

  • @Catherine Han
We use Campaign Monitor but I used MailChimp in my last job. In both cases the Red Arc Email Marketing Connector updates RE with any unsubscribes and soft and hard bounces are recorded in the email action so can be easily managed. Clicks and opens are also counted and automatically updated in RE. An automated nightly export from RE keeps records in the lists in the email programme up to date. I highly recommend this integration if you are wanting to simplify your email list process.

  • @Catherine Burns Do you archive hard bounce and unsubscribe list. We have hard bounced email and unsubscribed list. We still need to pay for those audiences in email platform.

  • @Catherine Han
    Constant Contact is great!

  • @Pat Phillips Constact contact charged by audience or audience +email sent? Thank you.

  • @Catherine Han Constant Contact has several plan options. You are billed by number of contacts and there is an email send limit. We have never exceeded the email limit for our plan. They also offer a nice discount for prepay.

  • @Pat Phillips thank you again, Pat
