Corporate Prospect Salutations

Options

Hi everyone! I'm building a list that our corporate fundraiser can use to set up a monthly email via RENXT to update a selection of his prospects. His prospects are mostly organisations and he wants to be able to set the addressee and salutation for each organisation's record (e.g. ‘Dear Mike’ instead of ‘Dear Hedges Law LLP’).

We've set up custom attributes to allow him to create lists of various types of corporate prospects (this worked better than prospect subcategories for us).

What's the best way to go about this? I know that corporate records don't have addressee/salutation fields, but I also want to avoid having to set up an individual record to go with each corporate donor.

Any tips appreciated!

  • @Sarah Jones You can set up non-constituent individual relationships on the Org record that contain all of the contact information as well as the appropriate addressee/salutation.

@Sarah Jones I think that this is not a salutation problem, but a contact management problem. Organizations can be set to mail to a contact type as they don't have proper addressee and salutations using Mail in DB view. I would make sure his contacts are set, and use the NXT list to create an export out of DB view with the fields. In the export, you can use the Relationships\\Contacts Addressee fields to get the fundraiser the information he needs.

  • Thanks @Dariel Dixon. To clarify, if I include organisation records in an email marketing list, what will merge into the salutation field? The organisation name?

@Sarah Jones I don't think anything will populate on the NXT marketing list. AFAIK, NXT doesn't have addressee/salutation options like DB view does.

I don't know if there is an idea in the idea bank for this, but it's worth voting for. This situation will require some manual manipulation regardless of how you resolve it. Creating individual records for these organizations is a horrible idea. If the contacts were already constituents that would help, but I wouldn't create constituent records just for this purpose.
