Facebook Fundraisers & PPGF

Options

This is somewhat adjacent to Luminate Online, but I can't see any way to matchback the Facebook donations in our PPGF report with the Facebook donations from our Meta donation reports. They both have a Transaction ID that looks like it should be the unique ID they both share, but the strings are actually different for the same donation between the two sources. The Meta donation reports have “PayPal Transaction ID” and the PPGF reports have “Transaction ID” and they look broadly the same in structure (same length, mixture of capital letters and numbers) but they don't match. There aren't any other unique IDs or combinations of data in the PPGF file that allow for concatenated unique IDs- the PPGF donations don't even have donor names so you can't try to cobble together anything like DonorNameDateAmountFBCampaignID, which wouldn't be perfect but would be reasonably close.

I am pretty concerned about our inability to do this matchback just on general principle, and it will be a major problem in 2 weeks or so, when PPGF pays out on the donations they started charging fees on. I will absolutely need to matchback donations with fees for reconciliation. Am I missing something obvious (or not obvious)? Did PPGF and Facebook really set this partnership up with no one-to-one donation IDs across platforms?

  • @Kelly Trop unfortunately, as far as I can tell, no. I can't find a way to match them up. I'm hoping someone has a great answer for this that I am missing, but so far I have not been able to find the thread that ties these together.

  • @Amy Barker I saw a post about this in a Facebook group where someone said that they'd reached out to PayPal and that Paypal indicated they were aware of the issue. Possibly they'll fix it at some point? Doesn't help us now, though.

While I'm discussing reconciliation issues, I also couldn't completely reconcile the totals between what was deposited/shown in PPGF and what was listed in Facebook (and I used the stated donation payout range, which is donations made prev month 16-end, current month 1-15). On a Facebook group I saw that other people have also had that issue. That's going to be an absolute nightmare if that keeps happening, especially on connected Facebook fundraisers, where I really need the reporting to be accurate. I've seen donations that came down the connector and showed up in the PPGF report, but that don't exist in the Facebook reports, and even adjusting for those there was still a discrepancy in overall donation numbers and amounts. I'm very unhappy about it.

I've also seen Facebook Fundraisers marked as API Fundraiser in the facebook report for no reason- they aren't connected to anything in Teamraiser and don't sync to Teamraiser (nor should they). I've brought the mislabeling up with Blackbaud and they've filed it as a defect to look into.

  • @Amy Barker and @Kelly Trop - just saw both of your posts. This has been incredibly hard to manage to say the least. I spent hours last month on the December report, and will need to do the same tomorrow for January,, creating multiple tabs with vlookups and tracking instagram and missing donations that we hear about from our participants. I really have no great solutions for either of you, but just letting you know you are not alone. I have sent files to Facebook and they have acknowledged the discrepancy in the transaction IDs and that there may be missing donations, but there has been no changes. From what I have heard that whole department was let go and they have no staff to work on it. My boss is ready to turn it off but we get too much money that way.
