Donor name appears in BBMS transaction report as "Cardholder Visa" when card is processed with the MobilePay Terminal

Options

Hi everyone! After a recent event, I opened our BBMS Transaction Report and noticed that several donor names appeared as “Cardholder Visa" or “No Name.” The donors' cards were tapped on the M2 card readers, and their donations were processed, but we can't credit them in Raiser's Edge because we don't know who they are.

According to our event coordinator, it appears this didn't happen if the donor has a record in Raiser's Edge.

Could the card reader be bad, or is there something I forgot to do when we set up BBMS? Thanks for any help you can give!

  • @Duane Waite, you should double-check with Support, but I believe this is normal for transactions that are only taken by card swiper. We have a few entries the same from one of our book sale events. I am guessing that BBMS identifies the records that already exist in your database, because of an email or card number match, but it is not designed (as web forms are) to capture donor information for entering into RE.

Partly, this respects consent regulations, as a one-time purchaser may not intend to sign up for a newsletter. If you want to capture donor information, I suggest you have a second “subscribe” form available on your device for donors to also enroll their name and contact info.

  • @Faith Murray Thank you for your response. I'll bring it up with my team.

Anyone else have any experiences with this? Our main concern is that we want to make sure all our donors are credited. (And yes, we'd like to reach out to any new larger donors!).

    Thanks again, Faith!

@Duane Waite I tested the readers when we first received them and found that when you tap the credit card, it doesn't capture the cardholder name. At our events, to avoid that, we use the chip reader or swiper on the side of the device.
