Area Code Clean Up

Options

Any good tips on how to clean up phone numbers so they include area codes? We have had very inconsistent data entry and now are needed to make sure that all area codes are included as part of the phone number. I would appreciate any advice on how to handle this efficiently. Thank you in advance.

  • @Joanie RogersThe old adage of garbage in, garbage out. IF ONLY people entered the information correctly and accurately the FIRST TIME. What a concept!

Not sure if you feel comfortable with imports, but my first inclination is to export the phone numbers, fix them, and then re-import. You will need the ID of the specific phone number that you will be changing, and (I believe) either the constituent ID or constituent import ID to match to the correct record in RE.

You might consider a phone cleanup service from a company as well. It will be an extra cost and you may still need to do an export and import process.

  • @Joe Moretti I agree completely. I asked to come back as a temp after 4.5 years of retirement until a new support person can be found. So I am trying to wrap my head around what has been done and how to fix it.

  • @Karen Diener Thank you! It's been awhile but I can refresh my memory on imports. I am back temporarily after 4.5 years of retirement, but it's almost like riding a bike. HA! Mainly area codes were not entered for many numbers and we want that cleaned up.
