Records in NXT vs. Database View

Options

Please be patient with me - I am relatively new to RE. I have a record that I can find in NXT (top part of the picture), but not in the database view (bottom). Why might that be?

  • @Cheri Harwood Did the record originate in the Database or NXT?

  • @Cheri Harwood So I guess your search gave you Coke Zero? ?
Good ideas from all. When I have trouble finding an org especially, I use an * before and after the word or words I think may bring the correct constituent to me. With your search, I sometimes try the unique part of the name like
    *ola found*
    and see what I get.

  • @Joni Mraz I don't know the answer to that. Can I tell from looking at the record? I did not create it, it pre-existed me.

  • @Dina Rieman THANK YOU - I searched for the Constituent ID and was able to find it.

I did add a backslash, as you mentioned, which has helped.

But I was searching for the common part of the name “Coca-Cola”. In my mind that should have worked.

  • @Mark Guncheon Coke Zero is right!

I will keep the asterick in mind. Thanks.

  • @Marie Stark Thank you - When I found it I added the backslash. Now I can find it. :)

  • @Cheri Harwood Fantastic. Searching can be challenging at times but it will get easier the more you use both RE and NXT. Plus this community of generous people is great for helping others.

    @Cheri Harwood Welcome!

I have also found that I get better search results in db view when the “Use Enhanced Search” box is not checked. Definitely shows more records in the search window. (You can change default search query to show other field if needed like 'class of.')

  • @Cheri Harwood Welcome! I know this isn't an answer you are looking for but – I use the alias box a lot. We have a lot of foundations with long names and this helps in searching and finding them.

  • @Dina Rieman
I didn't know about the back slash! TY! Game changer for me LOL

  • @Dina Rieman
I am curious. Will the back slash show up in the organization name when when I print? I like that idea but am wondering if that would cause more troubles when I am doing exports and such.

@Jaime Fortier I'm pretty sure it just appears as a space. There's really no downside to using it.

  • @Cheri Harwood I utilzie the alias feature a LOT! Things like this happen to me all the time.
You could put an alias of “Known Name” as Coca-Cola or Coke and then it should always be able to find it.
