I am looking for suggestions on how you pull data to get the "entire picture" of someone's giving. Meaning, we have constituents who donate themselves, AND through their family foundations as well as their personal foundation and / or business. So, if i want to see their entire giving throughout these avenues, how do i go about doing that. Do you recommend soft-crediting all of the gifts back to the person? How do you keep those foundations/orgs off of the mail list (perhaps with a solicit code)?

We don't have NXT. Would NXT solve this problem?

Thank you in advance!

We would utilize the soft credit function.

Mailing lists control could be through attributes, solicit codes or other fields.

No, IMO NXT would not give you this ability unless you have it entered as SC already. No magic function that I'm aware of.

  • Hello Kimberly!

I primarily use RE database…Companies that people donate through (ex: Edward Jones, Everence, Vanguard) are marked ‘do not solicit’ as this is our way of not sending mailings to them. The gift is entered under the company name as that is who sent the check, and soft credited to the donor who initiated it.

(For clarity, I color code soft credit gifts, IRA, stocks…with their own colors for quick viewing.) Hope this helps! (*^_^*)

  • Yes, soft credit them. A solicit code is the easiest way to keep them out of the list. That is how we handle. You are better off handling this in database view.

Hi @Dana Burton - We handle the process the same way with soft credits for these donations and include soft credits in reports for the donors giving history. I really enjoy learning from others. I mark the Companies with Do Not Mail so the company doesn't receive any mail from us.

Great tip on the color-coding of donations in the giving tab. This really helps me quickly view the different gift types.

  • Thanks, Dana. I see how I can color code gifts by gift type (e.g., stock/property) or by soft-credit in RE database view. But, I don't see how to color code gifts via IRA (QCD). Could you please clarify?
