Using QR Codes on Remit Slips for Data Entry

Options
For those of you that use scanners in house for "direct mail" gift entry, and scan directly into batch would you be willing to explain how you set that up? Is it a plug in? What scanner do you use? What was the set up like?

  • I am interested in this, too!
  • While we don't use scanners with QR codes for gift entry, I use an inexpensive bar code scanner to facilitate data entry. I create various bar codes with a free online bar code creator (there are many out there) and use for text that I often add to records as well as logins. I've got a sheet of my most often needed text bar codes next to me and use the bar code reader to scan when needed. Most often used are passwords, note descriptions and when working on a specific project that requires repeat text entry such as end dates or date ranges or assigned solicitor names, rather than typing I scan. Saves me a lot of typing.
  • I would really like to see that in action, Mark Guncheon‍ ! That is really interesting.
  • This is the bar code reader that I use:

It's a Symbol Technologies LS2208 but anyone should work. This goes for around $70.

No software required. IT plugs into a USB port on your computer.

I create my own barcodes at https://barcode.tec-it.com/en

I enter text and it creates the barcode which I then download and print out either by itself or with others for a certain project or just in general. My main sheet right next to my computer has 8 barcodes on it containing my dataview logins (I have two), my main computer login, and my NetCommunity site login. The sheet underneath has notepad codes for when I add a note explaining that I assigned a solicitor to a prospect which happens the most frequently of my tasks. The bar code list contains the Type of note, the Title of the note and then the Description. I then ctrl arrow back to between as and primary in the description to scan in the name of the solicitor which is scanned from my sheets three and four. So this:

    Becomes this:

So if I'm adding a group of new prospects to a few different solicitors, the note explain the assignment is quick to produce. And we have some solicitors with long names so this helps a great deal. :)
