How do international donors make a gift if STATE is required on the giving form?

  • I had this problem and was instructed by Support to create a state called "N/A" — it's annoying because you then need to delete that field during the download to batch process, but it does work around the required field for international donors.

Hi Katy Ritz‍ - If you know what specific countries your donors reside, you can add those country's state/provinces to the list that appears on OLX forms (Config > Tables).  If this data element is unknown, you may want to think about a general option for international addresses that can be selected by the donor and then removed during gift entry; I recommend you list the general option at the top of the drop-down for ease of use.
  • I know this problem far too well as we have the same issue with the NZ Suburb field and Online Express. No one else seems to understand our addresses - suburbs sometimes and towns/cities always but no states ever. NZ Suburb is required on the Online Express form but not every address in NZ has a suburb (we have some really small towns in New Zealand).

I created _N/A_ the underscores are to make sure it stays at the top of the list, even when the list is sorted.

I have a global update to replace _N/A_ with blank which I run before big mailings in case an _N/A_ has not been corrected by the person importing the payments. This is one of my biggest complaints about Online Express forms. I am not holding my breath that it will be fixed in NXT donation forms.

If you do not want to mess up your State table with international states you might want a "_International Address_" option instead of N/A because if they have a state but can't enter it then it would be frustrating. Can you add an instruction to put International addresses in the address lines instead?
