Opt-Out Synchronization

Has anyone turned on the Opt Out Sync yet? If so how does it work for you?

  • We have the sync on for email marketing, it created a new mapping under consent called No Emails, after discovering this i adjusted our mapping to fit. Due the wording they opt out of email communications rather than a granular but the system doesn't currently offer granular opt out, I am hoping this will be developed so that we can offer the constituent a granular opt out and they can choose which communications they would still like to receive.

Hi Rachel Lee‍ and Michael Langley‍ - Another thread within the OLX forum may be of interest to you - Solicit Codes and consent rules - a BB Project Manager commented about plans for an upcoming communication preference management tool in RE-NXT.

My org has the opt-out sync'd within OLX/RE to add a "Do Not Email" solicit code to constituent's records when they unsubscribe from our communications.  To try to deter constituents from unsubscribing, we have added a section directly above the footer in our OLX emails to give constituents the option to change their 'Communication Preferences' through an online form, which my team then manually updates in RE. See below for a screenshot of what this looks like and click here to view the form

  • Hi Rachel Lee‍. I just want to be sure there isn't any confusion about how the new Opt Out Synchronization feature works. Enabling that feature doesn't cause anything related to Consent to happen automatically. If you want OLX to generate Consent records when email signups and opt-outs happen, you can enable that feature separately in OLX's integration options. Sounds like your organization may have that enabled.

But turning on Opt Out Synchronization simply makes sure that the Do Not Email property of a given email address on the RE constituent record gets set properly when OLX email signup and unsubscribe events occur. When a signup happens, we make sure Do Not Email is unchecked and when an unsubscribe happens, we make sure it's checked.

Two other helpful things to note:

    1. When you enable this feature, it also takes all currently-active OLX unsubscribes and make sure the associated constituent records for all of those recipients has the Do Not Email checkbox checked. We chose NOT do this for OLX email recipients that are currently opted in. There are valid reasons an organization might have set the Do Not Contact flag for a given recipient manually even though the recipient hasn't unsubscribed using the opt-out link in the footer of OLX emails. But after the initial sync runs, OLX will set the Do Not Contact flag for all future opt ins and opt outs.

    2. The primary point of this work was to ensure that you could confidently transition from sending email through OLX to using RENXT email marketing. By making sure the Do Not Contact flag is set correctly, we're able to ensure that OLX opt outs are automatically respected and suppressed when sending email through RENXT.

    Hopefully that helps. Thanks!

  • Hi Austen Brown‍ thank you for response, the example of the form is also very helpful. I am in the process of setting up OXL we currently only use NXT, so do not have access to the forms, I cant wait until i can start being creative like you have been.

    Thanks Again

Thanks Chris, i think this will become more apparent to me when we get our OXL up and running :) currently we only use NXT for email marketing.

    Rachel :)

  • Hey thanks for clarifying Rachel Lee‍. Just know too that if you're happy with using email marketing in RENXT, you certainly don't have to spend any time ramping up to use the older email implementation in Online Express. As a nice side benefit, you have unlimited email sends for emails sent through RENXT whereas you have an annual limit (and overage fees apply if you exceed it) when sending email through OLX.

    Thanks!

  • We just started using it, and I have one question!

If a user accidentally unsubscribes, is there anything we can do on our end to make sure he's able to receive email communication in the future?

Hi Anna Zimmerman‍ - The user would need to re-submit their email through the OLX Sign-up form.  There is nothing you can do within the database to reverse the unsubscribe in OLX.
  • @Austen Brown have you heard of any further development of the preference management tool for RENXT?

@Glenn Preston - I haven't in the last few years unfortunately; both OLX and NXT email marketing are an all or nothing opt-out. I recommend visiting the Idea Bank and making sure this is represented - whether you find an idea or create your own, share the link to it here and we'll show support by voting for it.
