Email Subject Line Truncating Due to Merge Field Code?

Options
Hello Community,

We sent a FYE appeal email using the preferred name merge field in the subject line, along with the subject line text.  We had a few instances were we received a donation through this email, but got a truncation error due to the number of characters in the subject line.  The gift wouldn't process through the BBNC Plug in because of it.  i was told by BBNC support that the subject line holds up to 255 characters, but the donations we received with this error were up to 270 characters.   Has anyone else experienced an issue with using merge fields in the subject lines?  Any suggestions for character count if the coding for the merge field takes up most of the character limit in that field?  And how would we know how many characters the coding takes?

Thank you!

    Hi Nancy,
Did you get a response to your question? I'm new and trying to find out whether merge fields are supported in the Email Subject Line or not? I can't seem to find anything in the documentation so far.
    Thanks!

@Heather Fields Yes Merge fields in subject lines are supported for BBNC messages with RE query list only, details can be found here

I will caution that as BBNC merge fields are Image tags the HTML added to populate that field will produce errors in the NetCommunity plugin if someone clicked a link to donate as @Nancy Vinje Jones described in this post. As RE has a limitation on the amount of data, you would need to manually enter the BBNC gift into a RE batch.
