Peer to Peer fundraising and gifts

Options
How do you record gifts from Peer-to-Peer fundraisers?  How are you attaching/linking the Fundraiser (the one who setup the fundraiser) with the gifts that come in from that?

And then are you marking (and, if so, how) the Fundraiser as a peer-to-peer fundraiser on the constituent record?

We plan to use a gift attribute (Fundraiser) which is a link to the Constituent record who sets up the fundraiser.

Thinking we may have to flag the Fundraiser constituent record as a Fundraiser using an attribute.  But there are other ways to go (e.g., constituency code).

What do you do?

    We use solicitor assignments.
  • Solicitor Assignments.  On the gift (gift solicitor) or do you also setup each Solicitor relationship to each and every donor to that fundraiser?  Isn't that a lot of work?

For our Peer to Peer solicitors are assigned to prospects they request and we add assignment/relationship to all in RE. Yes, it is some work. I do 95%+ via import. Late or stray assignments I create a specific record query and then do a global add. Because we want to track and report on these relationships, it seems to be best option for us.
  • I actually don't love using solicitor assignments for this, though it's the most common solution and I understand the arguments for it. I prefer using the Honor/Memorial function. So the fundraiser gets a tribute put on their record, and then all of the gifts that come in go toward that tribute. This keeps my solicitor pool less muddy. I prefer to only have staff and other more tightly affiliated people who raise money (board members, etc.) marked as solicitors.

Honor/Memorial is not a module we have. Guess how it it's done best depends on available options/modules you have. :)
