Merging Constituents

Options
Hello!

I know how to merge constituents, but I have a strange scenario.

Both me and my husband work(ed) at my school.  We each had separate records (we were not married when I started here).  Whenever either one of us would make a gift, our assistant would enter the gift and then soft credit the other.

My husband retired in May of 2017 and I will be retiring on 10/31/18 (yay!).  I was wanting to simplify our two records and merge my information into his record.  How would I get rid of the soft credits that are on his record for my gifts?  I know I could leave both records....just didn't want to.

    Congrats on the upcoming retirement!

I believe I had that scenario before. You merged the records and the gift is showing as well as a soft credit for it, correct? It's been a while but I think I had to go to each of the gifts and manually remove the soft credit from the gift record. I know I had to do that manual work and if both the HC and SC are showing after merging that may have been the reason I had to do it. Can't recall if merging them automatically cleaned it up.
  • Thank you, JoAnn.  I know when you merge two constituents, you can check the box to exclude soft credits.  I am guessing manually deleting soft credits from his record is the only way to do it.
  • Joanie,

You need to go to the hard credit record and delete the soft credit from there.

  • I would not merge the records if there is individual giving before you got married.
