Creating new constituents in RE NXT ignores settings in Database view

How can Blackbaud release features in RE NXT that breaks settings/rules in Database View?


I discovered that one can create new constituents in RE NXT but it ignores the Field required settings in Database View.  This now means we need to keep auditing new records and correct these mistakes.  One of the fields is actually the Address/Country and if one does not create an address through RE NXT if one is creating a new constituent it does not default a country value.  Very annoying.  Other fields we use are addressee/salutation.


And while I'm at it, if one links via RE NXT relationships and makes one the spouse, there is not Head of Household default or even a button to set.  Thus, we now have spouses linked via the Partner button where neither is the Head of Household.  And then this messes up exports because if one selects Head of Household it see's there a spouse but then it does not export out either of them.


So, we are spending lots of time correcting the errors from these features.


How can Blackbaud release items when simple testing seems to not be done as it breaks other things?


And when I called support on this, aside from them not knowing this, they stated I have to make my "fixes" as a feature in the ideas bank.  It's actually things that are BROKEN, it's not a feature.


Can you tell I'm very frustrated.

    Agreed. I have to now run system audits to ensure all new records captured all the mandatory fields, its incredibly time consuming and silly.

    Not silly but critical.  I can't believe they can release this feature but break the rest.  I asked them about this and stated these are FIXES that need to be done but they claim these are FEATURES that need to be requested.  I even asked if we can disable the Create New Record button but only with security which would cause issues with Database View.

    You're entirely right. I also take issue with the security being tied to each view. As a DBA, NXT has yet to prove itself to me.

    Glad to hear I'm not going crazy. I don't understand how Blackbaud can be okay with going backwards with a product. My users like NXT but it's starting to drive me nuts with the extra work just to maintain a minimal level of data integrity that I already had without NXT.

    Good looking out! I know that they enabled adding constituents via NXT but I had not used it yet because as the DBA I hardly ever use NXT and am still operate out of the database view. I think NXT is good for fundraisers, but it is definitely failing many of my needs as a DBA and our Marketing Department with OX. I second that it seems like with some of these new products they have over-simplified and the new products have in a way kind of gone backwards in capability.

    Blackbaud, Jarod, et al - are you hearing this?  Your DBAs aren't happy.  Why aren't these issues a priority for Blackbaud?

    Wow. This is a problem! I had really thought that BB wouldn't take away functions while moving to NXT.... now you're showing otherwise. Making my consideration of Salesforce even stronger....

    Please note that this Idea ("Required fields not respected in NXT web view") is already in the "planned" stage which means it is already on a timeline somewhere to be developed and implemented. How long this takes depends on a lot of factors, I guess. But alas it is coming!
