Membership payment with a donation

We will be adding a donation component to our memberships and to event registration fees.  We are very interested in how others handle this situation. 


We have BBNC pages for Membership and for Events that then get processed into RE.  Some of the issues we are grappling with include:

1. Could we "bake in" the donation so the donor sees that the membership fee is $40 with a note explaining that $5 is considered a donation?
  • we would need a backend solution to split the transaction
  • are there front end changes that would be needed
2. Can we set up our BBNC pages (front facing) to handle the split transaction? Pros, cons?  How would the backend work?

3. Could this situation bee set up as two separate transaction?  Pros, cons?

    Hi Elissa,


    1. This isn't standard functionality for BBNC membership and event parts, but you *may* be able to achieve this via a customization. You should check in with your Account Manager for BBNC and they can check with Blackbaud's Professional Services team through their standard process.

    2. and 3. This isn't standard functionality for BBNC membership and event parts, but you *may* be able to achieve this via a customization. Pros about splitting a transaction is they go to two separate funds in one gift record in Raiser's Edge. Cons: you now have to deal with split gifts in query and reporting, and it gets a little more complicated with your gift amounts vs. receipt amounts. Not impossible, but something to consider.
