Best Practice for Including Registration Fees in Total Raised?

Options
We have an annual run/walk and are using Team Raiser for the event.  We would like to include EVERYTHING raised in the grand total - Registration Fees, Donations, Vendor Fees, Sponsorships, etc.

I can't figure out the best way to include Registration Fees in the total.  If I use the "Status Indicators Include Monetary Value of Registration Fees" option, then it counts anyone who registers for the event as a "Self Donor."  It also sends out a thank you for the donation message, but it's not a donation.

What have others done so that their thermometer is tracking all funds raised?

Thanks,

    Hey Cary,

I moved this into the TeamRaiser discussion forum to get you the answers you are looking for. Thanks!

If you are counting registrations as fundraising, then they are a self-donor. Especially when you compare that some participant types have no registration fees or when discount codes are used.

We used to count reg as fundraising, but we felt the messaging regarding minumum fundraising requirements was complicated by the registration fee. ("You must raise at least $100, but your registration fee counts toward that amount." "So we really have to raise $70?" "Right, unless you use a discount code or are a virtual fundraiser, or got early-bird pricing...")

"It also sends out a thank you for the donation message, but it's not a donation."

The "standard donation" autoresponder goes out for a registration? I don't recall that ever happening. Are you sure it's not a conditional in your registration AR?
