Engaging with Blackbaud Copilot Generative AI

Options
We are happy to announce that all EAP customers now have access to Blackbaud Copilot.

Blackbaud Copilot provides a generative AI capability on your own company’s information. We have begun to upload content such as ESG/CSR reports, public websites, and news articles. Copilot is a closed-system generative AI tool that only evaluates these public documents related to your company’s impact investments. We will continue to add content during EAP to improve the results and experience.

The quality of your generative AI search heavily depends on writing effective prompts. Creating effective prompts takes some practice. The AI response depends on patterns, and the more descriptive your prompts, the better the AI response. When creating your prompt, consider the following guidelines to improve your generative AI experience.

  • Be specific, clear, and concise as much as you can about what you want to achieve. You can always start simply with your first prompt, but as you get more familiar with Blackbaud Copilot, include more details following the elements of an effective prompt.

  • Basic prompt: My impact 2022

  • Better prompt: Can you give me information about my organization's employee giving programs, including a list of known charitable organizations that my employees contributed money and/or time to in 2022?

  • Iterate. Subsequent prompts are typically needed to either clarify what you need further, or try other versions of a prompt to get closer to what you're looking for. Like all large language model (LLM) based systems, Blackbaud Copilot can respond to the same prompt in slightly different ways. Provide necessary context to narrow down what Blackbaud Copilot should look for in the data.

    • Basic prompt: Summarize our ESG efforts in 2022

    • Better prompt: Summarize our ESG efforts into a paragraph that I can submit to my manager. Format with an introduction paragraph followed by bullet points.

  • Directly address Blackbaud Copilot as "You", as in, "You should ..." or "You must ...", as this is more effective than referring to it as a model or assistant.

  • When possible, include examples in your prompts.

  • Specify your preferred output type, such as "report", "summary", "bullet points".

We would love to hear your feedback as you engage with this new technology and feature.
