Position Summary:

The Manager of Online Engagement supports the American Kidney Fund’s strategy to provide its constituents with compelling and user-friendly opportunities to engage with the organization using digital channels. The manager will use technical expertise to support initiatives originating in the marketing, communications and development divisions of AKF, applying a deep knowledge of how nonprofit fundraising, communications and marketing intersect.

Position Overview

  • Serve as a key member of internal team designing AKF’s new responsive website (launching mid-2015), informing the development process by providing both technical expertise and an understanding of best practices to maximize user satisfaction and engagement with the site.
  • On an ongoing basis, support AKF’s new responsive website by collaborating with Manager of Online Services on content and design updates and enhancements.
  • Collaborate with marketing team members on strategies to grow AKF’s email database, using technical expertise to develop and implement new online tools in concert with Manager of Online Services.
  • Format monthly responsive AKF e-newsletters and other corporate communications using HTML.
  • Analyze monthly reports on website activity, bounce rates, open rates, click-throughs, and conversions, and recommend strategies to improve results.
  • Collaborate with communications team members to develop new tools and strategies to grow and engage AKF’s social media audience.
  • Collaborate with Government Relations and Communications team on engaging, retaining and growing AKF’s Advocacy Network
  • Interact with Constituent Relations to ensure that all online fundraising data and financial information is captured appropriately in the main Development database (Raisers Edge) and that the online platforms are issuing the appropriate acknowledgements and tax receipts.

In close collaboration with Development and the Senior Director of Community Engagement:

  • Work with outside vendor to develop and launch AKF’s new third-party/peer-to-peer online fundraising site.
  • Serve as primary user in AKF’s new third-party/peer-to-peer fundraising site by developing and executing initial platform launch in concert with members of the Development team
  • Provide ongoing support of third-party/peer-to-peer fundraising site by making routine updates and enhancements, managing data, and responding to user requests for technical assistance.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive online testing and performance tracking systems for all online fundraising activities. Work with the Development team and vendors to optimize email and integrated campaigns, web properties and online fundraising processes.
  • Develop and manage fundraising and giving pages, tools and graphics for online fundraising activities, including forms and event management in Luminate Online and new AKF third-party/peer-to-peer fundraising platform.
  • Collaborate with Development and outside consultants, including direct response firm, to develop, design, implement and evaluate digital fundraising/giving campaigns for the purpose of driving online giving and donor acquisition, upgrades, and retention.

Education & Experiance 

5 years relevant experience in a similar role in the nonprofit field. College degree preferred. Experience with Blackbaud’s Luminate software and services, or a similar platform, required. Proficiency required in HTML, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of Raisers Edge a plus. Experience managing vendors preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to track and coordinate multiple projects and complete work in a timely manner. Must be well-organized with strong attention to detail; a proactive problem solver; able to work independently and within a team framework; and able to receive constructive feedback.
