Merging and Renaming Departments

My school plans to merge two departments into one and rename the department.

The mechanics of the obvious steps seem fairly easy. (Edit the department name; change the department on the course records for the relevant courses.)

If you've done this, I'd like to hear about any non-obvious problems you ran into.

• Any surprises? quirks? calamities?
• Anything weird happen to your transcripts or report cards?

@Brian Gray We did this for Middle School and Upper School this year. I recommend naming both/all of the departments with distinct descriptive names before you do the merge (e.g. “MS Math” and “US Math”), then after the merge rename both the newly merged department and (assuming you inactivate it) the one you are no longer using (e.g. “OLD Dept-Math”) so that you can distinguish them easily.
