Applying New Gift to a Planned Gift

Options

We've had a few realized planned gifts come our way recently, but we haven't successfully been able to link them to the realized revenue of the original planned gift on the record. The “apply to Planned Gift” is greyed out.

I've gone down many-a-rabbit holes reading blackbaud knowledgebase articles, and most of them say that the gift can't be posted (it's not), or there needs to be a planned gift on the record (there is).

Is anyone else experiencing this and/or figured out how to remedy the situation?

  • @Carrie Clark Does the person doing the entry have Supervisor rights or access to work with Planned Gifts in the Security settings?

Also, what type of Planned Gift is it? Bequest, Gift Annuity, etc.?

  • @Christine Robertson - Yes. I have supervisory rights. The type of planned gift - in this instance doesn't matter, because it won't work for any of them - bequests or otherwise.

  • @Carrie Clark Seemed worth checking just in case. Have you tried to reach out to support as well?

  • @Christine Robertson - We tried the chat feature, which didn't really go anywhere. This group usually has more user-friendly answers with real experiences. So I figured I'd give this a go.

@Carrie Clark What is the gift type for the gift that they are trying to apply to the planned gift?

  • @Elizabeth Johnson Gift type is Cash.

@Carrie Clark I've done a little testing on my end as I just applied a cash gift to a planned gift last week and all was fine. I thought maybe if the gift has been realized was check then it wouldn't work. It worked fine.

What are the chances it was already applied to something else like a pledge? That would gray it out to then apply it to the planned gift.

Any screenshots you could share would be useful for the community to help support you.

  • @Elizabeth Johnson I appreciate it. I think I'm going to open a case with Blackbaud support. Based on the knowledgebase articles, people have issues with this when the PG module is present. I was just hoping someone in the community experienced it and had a solution.

@Carrie Clark Sounds like a great plan. I've had luck with the last two agents I had on cases. I was able to connect quickly and they went above and beyond. Wishing that for you too.

If you find a resolution, it would be great to post it back here.

  • @Carrie Clark this might be a silly question, but I thought I'd check just in case. The planned gift has to be on the estate record that you are applying the gift on, so I'm just wondering if you are trying to apply it to a different constituent record as you cannot do that, though you can with regular pledges.

Hopefully support can assist you - good luck!

  • @Taisha Elliott - yes! This I know. I was even trying to add a gift to my own record, and creating a cash gift to apply it to, and it wouldn't work. I had our Systems Administrator try it as well, to no avail.
