Issue with summary fields in webview query

A few users in the Facebook user group have mentioned webview query acting funny, so I went and tested it out. I believe this is a bug and I wanted to bring it to your attention!

Here's what's going on:

If you add a summary field to your criteria and include additional filters within the summary field, if you add that summary field from the query fields area as your sort variable, it wipes out all of your additional filters in the summary field. Here's a more concrete example:

I created a constituent query and selected the Amount of Gifts summary field in criteria and set it to gifts greater than or equal to $1000. In the summary field's filter area, I selected specific gift types and a gift date range of July 1, 2024 through today. In the output field, I selected Constit ID, Constit Name, and the Summary field I created in the criteria from the Query Fields area. In Sort, I selected the Summary field I created in the criteria from the Query Fields area set to descending.

When I do this and run the query, it pulls up every single gift of greater than or equal to $1000 in my database. When I look back on the criteria field of my query and click on the summary field, all of the filters I selected are gone.

It is pretty common to want to use your summary field from the query fields as your sort field. In this case, I wanted all the gifts above a certain level, within a date range and to see the output sorted by the largest of those specific gifts to the smallest. Right now, you cannot do that the way we've been doing it in database view. I believe you can GET to this by creating an entirely new summary field for the sort area that is identical the one you created in the criteria field, but this is neither obvious or a great solution, since no one is going to assume that sorting by a query field changes the query field in the criteria.

Again, I'm pretty sure this is a bug and wanted to bring it to your attention! Hopefully it can be fixed quickly before more folks get frustrated by how summary fields are working in webview!

    @Maya Rosman thanks for testing this and passing along the feedback. I regularly sort by the summary field I've used in my criteria, so this is critical functionality. Hopefully this bug can be remedied soon.

    @Pamela Bird, this is a bug we're working on as well. For future defects, would you be sure to report them to support as well? We want to ensure they're properly tracked behind the scenes.
