Feature Summary

Release: Fall '09

Author: Noel Beebe

Overview

You may recall that Convio’s Summer 2009 release included a new feature called Fundraising Milestones, designed to congratulate and coach participant fundraisers as they approached strategic levels of fundraising.  Convio’s Fall 2009 release extends the Milestones feature to include icons, referred to as badges, that will display next to a participant’s name when they achieve a specific Fundraising Milestone.  Similarly, achievement badges can also be configured to display for participants who make a donation toward their own fundraising goal.  The goal of this feature is to inspire participants to fundraise by providing the incentive of public acknowledgement of fundraising achievements.

New Concepts or Terms
Achievement Badges
– an icon (such as a gold or silver medal) that displays next to a participant’s name on the public event site to signify that the participant has succeeded in achieving a particular fundraising goal, such as a milestone or a personal gift.

Personal Gift – a gift that a participant makes on behalf of their own participation, either during the registration process, or after registration

Use Scenario
Doug registers for the Run for Clean Air TeamRaiser event.  During registration, he makes an additional donation to kick-start his fundraising.  Once his registration and gift are processed, he views his personal page to find that there is a “personal gift” achievement badge displaying on his page, and next to his name on his Team Roster.  When his teammates see the icon, they can mouse over it to see that it is a personal gift achievement badge, and will then want to make a donation toward their own goal so they will receive an achievement badge as well.

Key Features

  • Ability for admins to browse and select an image from the image library to use as an achievement badge
  • Ability for admins to browse and upload an image from their desktop to use as an achievement badge
  • Ability for admins to specify a badge per Fundraising Milestone
  • Ability for admins to specify a badge to use when a participant makes a personal gift
  • Updated design to display achievement badges on a participant’s personal page
  • Updated design to display achievement badges next to a participant’s name in all public-facing participant lists, such as the Team Roster, Top 10 Participants list, and Participant Search Return lists.

Feature Configuration
NOTE: This feature should only be enabled for new events.  If badges are enabled after participants have begun fundraising, the achievement badges will NOT display retroactively for participants who have already made personal gifts or achieved milestones.  Badges will display correctly for every personal gift or milestone achieved after badges have been enabled.

FAQs

Q: Does the Personal Gift Achievement Badge appear for participants who make any donation?

A: No – the Personal Gift Badge only appears when a participant makes a gift toward their own fundraising goal – it will not appear for participants who make a donation to an event, a team, or any other form on the site.

Q: Can I use badges without using other Milestone features?

A: Yes, you can just configure a milestone level and a badge without enabling the milestone notification and autoresponder features.

Q: What happens if I delete a badge or assign a new image to appear as a badge?

A: All existing badges will be updated to assume the most recent version of the image, or disappear altogether if no image is present.
