The Maryland Food Bank (MFB) is a nonprofit hunger-relief organization dedicated to feeding people, strengthening communities, and ending hunger for more Marylanders by partnering with local organizations from the western mountains to the Eastern Shore. The food bank’s statewide network of food assistance brings enough resources together to provide more than 111,000 meals every day (over 40 million meals annually) to hungry children, seniors, veterans, and hard-working families, meeting the immediate needs of hungry Marylanders while simultaneously working to create pathways out of hunger.

Overview

The Prospect Management Specialist will be responsible for prospect identification, research, and pre-qualification. They will support frontline fundraisers in their data management to better understand their metrics and goals. They will provide critical support for a higher level of relationship-based fundraising as MFB explores a potential campaign planning study and subsequent comprehensive fundraising campaign. Primary Responsibilities

Campaign planning and management: 30%

  • Provide campaign-level support in creating timelines, gift tables, and scheduling meetings related to consulting and planning studies
  • Schedule interviews with external stakeholders and create research profiles for each to support the campaign planning study

Prospect identification and research: 30%

  • Conduct broad research using tools like DonorSearch, data modeling, and internet searches to identify, evaluate, and prequalify potential donors
  • Perform complex analyses and interpret complex financial disclosure documents for wealth assessment (SEC and FEC filings, real estate property files, philanthropic giving reports, and foundation tax returns)
  • Continuously conduct pipeline analysis to discover insights, patterns, and gaps among prospect pools, portfolios, and donor segments to support fundraising strategies

Portfolio Support: 25%

  • Collaborate with frontline fundraisers to ensure all data is entered in RENXT to track donor engagement, outreach, opportunities, and other KPIs related to moves management
  • Review reports and visualizations showing portfolio landscapes and progress to ensure portfolios are filled with prospects' appropriate volume and capacity to meet revenue targets
  • Manage portfolio transition and clean-up projects to align portfolios with fundraising goals

Data Management and Analysis: 15%

  • Manage and update donor database with wealth screening data and research history.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of the Philanthropy Operations data systems for moves management

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience in a philanthropy department
  • Project management experience with the ability to manage workflow processes and schedules
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse staff across organization levels, locations, and cultures to optimize tool usage
  • Able to collaborate within a team environment and communicate expectations effectively
  • Proven expertise in critical thinking and troubleshooting
  • A deep understanding of Moves Management and its underlying data needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to translate between fundraiser needs and database systems
  • Adaptable and responsive to feedback; quick to learn new systems and processes
  • Proclivity for attention to detail and can notice patterns and minute changes in regular tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years experience in prospect research
  • Knowledge and compliance with the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) best practices, including a strong commitment to donor privacy
  • Ability to exercise discretion and uphold confidentiality when handling sensitive information
  • Demonstrated experience with prospect research platforms; experience with DonorSearch a plus
  • Experience using Raiser’s Edge NXT is a plus
