for us.. donor advised fund is an org constituent record with Constituent Code of Donor Advised Fund.

Gift from DAF is recorded direct credit on the DAF record, and soft credit to the actual donor record.

When running report, we use gift option: soft credit receipient using amount in grid (amount soft credited)

Thank you Alex. So if I understand correctly when you run the report you pull the constituency code of DAF and the soft credit amount?

if I specifically want to know DAF giving and who is responsible for them, then yes.. i will do gift query with constituent code of DAF, BUT query option will be direct credit, NOT soft credit to receipeint.

instead, you will output soft credit details from the soft credit section of the output. You will get mulitple rows for the same gift record, one for each soft credit. Do not summarize by gift amount output, but by the soft credit amount output.

@Linda Schwambach My organization uses gift attributes for these on the gift level (this goes for IRA gifts as well). The DAF organizations are coded by the type of organizations, not if they are a DAF housing organization. For query purposes we can just run a gift query based on the attribute. Attributes are used because we can simply add them when batching gifts. And because not every gift given by that organization will be from a DAF.

EDIT: I think this also goes down to constituent structure. Looking at how @Alex Wong is describing it, his organization probably creates a constituent record for each DAF, using a DAF constituency. My organization looks at the organization as a whole, and then codes them appropriately. I think it's based on what your reporting needs are, and how the structure is already setup.
