Claiming Gift Aid under the small donations scheme

Options

A question for my fellow UK fundraisers.

We want to start claiming gift aid under the small donations scheme. Some of the eligible donations we get some in the form of a cash collection - for example, we might be handed a collection box filled with coins and small notes that add up to £100 total.

Obviously this £100 is made up of lots of smaller gifts which are all eligible for the small donations Gift Aid scheme. In the past I would have recorded the £100 in a single payment in RE under a ‘collection box’ record. How do I break up the £100 to ensure I can claim the Gift Aid? For example, would I just record it as four gifts of £25 so it qualifies, or do I break it down by the denomination of coins/notes I received?

Thanks!
