Connecting task to assignments in main view crashes

In the process of trying to track down a different problem that a student was having with creating tasks in the new assignment center, I noticed that I could reliably make the task dialog crash by trying to connect it to an assignment from the main page.

Above, I clicked wiffed on clicking in the assignment search field and just hit the search magnifying glass with an empty search query and it timed out. When I click in the field, the drop down show me a link to list all 34 assignments. Clicking that similarly times out.
