Late flag on teacher's Assignment page

@Michael Morrissette - A teacher tells me that when a student submits an assignment after the due date, the assignment's grading page used to add the Late flag for the student but no longer does. It's been a while since I have worked with real assignments, so I don't remember what the expected behavior is.

In the screenshot below, the due date is 11/30/23. The student submitted it on 12/5/23. The teacher expected to see the Late flag set automatically next to the student's name.

Should the late flag be set by the system when the student submits after the due date?

Hi @Brian Gray -

As of right now, the only marked as designation that has an automatic function built into it is ‘Collected’ (Changes the status of the Assignment from In Progress or Overdue to Completed for the student). I double-checked and confirmed that the Late marker does not automatically populate.

If a student submits an assignment after the due date, they do get an icon here however to let the teacher know that the assignment was submitted after the due date. At that point, it's up to the teacher as to where or not the assignment is then marked as Late.

If a student doesn't submit an assignment, the assignment will go to an Overdue status for the student. Maybe that is what the teacher is referencing?

I did find an Idea for this in the Idea Portal however:

Certainly give it a vote. I want to add some preferences in the future to give those marked as designations more function in the future.
