Student File Submissions

Options

Beginning October 4th, we have had a handful of issues where students submit a file (could be a Google doc or PDF) to an assignment set up with in-system submission yet the teacher can not see them. When impersonating the student, I clearly see the submitted files along with the submission date and time at the top of the assignment detail. From the teacher's perspective, however, no files are shown and it looks like the students did not complete it.

In some cases, the assignment had been submitted late and the teacher had a “missing” label on it. In others, the student submitted the file early before the due date but it still did not appear to the teacher. We have filed a ticket (case #019489956) but no one can figure it out!

Is anyone else experiencing this? Thank you!

    Hi @Stephanie Hammond -

We're working through this issue now and I believe we have determined the root cause. It looks like this is happening when the assignment is allowed to be resubmitted. If the student submits an assignment and then changes either the text or something with the files after the initial submission, it clears teacher's view.

Having the student click ‘resubmit’ will make the files/text accessible to teachers again.

To address this we have a couple of fixes coming down the pipeline. First, students will now see a disabled ‘Resubmit’ button unless something on the screen has changed since their last submission, thus a none-disabled button should help signal to the student that their assignment needs to be resubmitted. The second update is that when a student changes a file or their text after the initial submission, the assignment will move back to a status of In Progress.

Let me know if you have any questions!
