Need a unique constituent code for a non-alumni past student

Options

We are in need for a constituent code for past students who are not actual graduates. We are a Pre-K - 8th grade school and many of our past students are now adults and potential parents of our school are asking to be included in communications from the school. Do you have a constituent code that is not Alumni or Past Student that would logically represent these types of constituents? TIA

@Sharon Yokelson You could use Former Student, Non-grad student, Ex-student, Attended-non grad. Past Student would be logical option too, IMO.

I've also seen “Exit Alumni" but that was in a high school. I guess it still works for K-8 but for some reason I don't think of grade school attendees as “alumni”.

Use whatever will make the most sense to your staff. If there is language you already use to describe these students in everyday conversations, start there. Just make sure it is clearly defined in your constituent code documentation.

  • @Sharon Yokelson Great answers! I've been meaning to improve the write-up on this topic - thanks for giving me the opportunity.

We use Alumnus/a Non-graduate, short code ALN. At our school we treat our ALNs pretty much the same as our Alumnus/a (AL) This keeps them next to each other alphabetically and it allows us to separate them out for reporting when necessary.

On our education tab we only use date left with our ALN and date graduated with our AL so it is easy to see on our relationship tabs.

For Parents, Parent Non-graduate (PAN) and Grandparents, Grandparent Non-graduate (GPN) have similar coding - if they have any child that graduates we do not classify them this way.

We also have attributes to easily identify parents/grandparents of certain classes for lists and queries.

For Past Parent (PP) we use 2023 as the description and P '23 as the comment
For Parent Non-graduate (PAN) we use 2023n as the description and P '23n as the comment

We have a fair amount of exchange students and some families that only plan on one year at our school so they can have the full Putney experience. The ones that don't want to hear from us let us know.

Our academic side uses Veracross and they use Former Student. I don't plan to change to match their newer system. It works just fine.

This is fabulous information!! Very helpful. I will certainly think about utilizing these options. With several I should be able to globally change the existing codes. ?

yep yep, used this method form k-8 and 9-12 schools… Alum Non Grad etc. With the Date Entered Date Left. Also utilize the Education Status field for Pre-MySchool and Post-MySchool for their feeders and the school they went to after they left.
