Autocomplete addresses on Online Express Form RE7

Options

Hi everyone, we have been using online express for sometime and would like autolookup address functionality on our donation form so a donor doesn't have to manually enter in their address. Do we need to approach a third party to enable this? Can we even do this? I think we need some sort of code on our website?

The only way to do this would be to enable donation forms in webview and not OLX. Even then, you would also need to enable the portal which would only work for returning donors who log in to the portal first.

I'm not convinced that this is terribly important to donors, since address information isn't something they would need to look up in order to add. Is there a reason your organization is hoping to do this?

@Em Siemonek - Unfortunately, this is not currently possible for OLX. Nor is it likely to be possible in the future, as the development focus is on Web View products (aka NXT donation forms).

  • @Em Siemonek, I may be a little backward on this, but even if it were possible … if I have not logged in to a website, I would be a bit freaked out by an autocomplete address feature. It also would enable severe data risk, as I (the donor) could just sit and type in anybody's name into the form and get their addresses. I don't believe this is a feature, and it's probably better off that way … unless, as @Karen Diener suggests, they have logged into their Portal account.

  • @Faith Murray I was meaning, address lookup. So if a donor starts typing their address into a form, it would come up with the rest of their address, so there wouldn't be a need to input city or suburb. Thanks heaps

  • @Karen Diener Hi Karen, I was meaning an address auto look up feature. So if the donor started typing their address, the form could do the work for them so they don't need to input suburb, or city.

  • @Em Siemonek Hi Em. For NZ Addresses you can add address lookup. Check out our donation form using Online Express here https://www.hollows.org.nz/donate or the Barnardos one here https://barnardos.org.nz/donate Both pages use address validation from Addy

    with an Online Express form

The Addy solution provides javascript for address validation that can be combined with the javascript for your Online Express form. I leave that part to the web developers. They also add to it to send whatever value you use when there is no suburb, if there is no suburb, as Online Express treat this as required, even though it is not in NZ!

Feel free to message me if I you need more info.

  • @Catherine Burns - oh gosh! I've just seen this! thank you! I've just had a look at the forms - have the designs been altered as well? We so want to change the look and feel of our forms but aren't sure how far we can go with them as we understand that we will no longer have blackbaud support if the form javascript is edited

  • @Em Siemonek

Yes, on the rare occasion when I have needed Blackbaud support for a form I have had to get the web developers to create an version without the edited javascript and prove that the issue is for that form too, so it is not a javascript issue.
